Multi-purpose rocket bench

Multi-purpose rocket airframe bench. Built from off-the-shelf accessories, the base
is assembled from angle-iron cut to size and them bolted together with 3/8"
all-thread. This holds the angle-iron firmly together, which is in turn
fastened to a piece of pine, making the unit portable. The 9/16" aluminum slide rods are held firmly in place by elevated U-bolts.
The movable platform on top is also attached to the aluminum
slide rods with adjustable U-bolts. On the other end of the frame, the aluminum slide rods are just held
in place by eye bolts, to make adjustments easier. A 1" Velcro strap is attached to either side of the airframe support. Interchangable airframe supports of different diameters can be used, each
with attached Velcro straps used to wrap around the airframe. The airframe supports themselves are attached to the sliding platforms
using insert nuts and flathead allen screws. For smaller rockets, curved styfofoam inserts can be shaped and used to
allow various airframe diameters to be held securely by the bench. This also illustrates one important advantage of an airframe bench, in how
the fins are elevated above the work table with the rocket body held
securely, but still able to rotate freely within the supports.
